Online Gambling Legalisation Still On The Table In Pennsylvania

Despite two cancelled hearings, legalisation is still a live prospect

The chairman of the Pennsylvania House Gaming Oversight Committee, Representative John Payne has reiterated that despite the cancellation of hearings on online and other gambling issues in October (see previous InfoPowa reports) the issue remains live and will receive the attention of the committee.
Observers now report that the online gambling and other related proposals such as the regulation of daily fantasy sports will likely be considered as a package by the lawmakers, who are trying to find alternative sources of revenue to help address the state's $2 billion budget deficit without resorting to an increase in public taxation.
Representative Payne recently commented that instead of progressing multiple bills out of his committee, his task was to ensure that a realistic package of measures was combined, agreed and forwarded for wider debate and consideration. Online gambling offers the most lucrative revenue possibilities and is a priority in such a package, observers have suggested.
