Rep. Tyler Vorpagel has been working on his latest bill since January
Wisconsin could be the next US state to legalise daily fantasy sports following the introduction to the state Assembly this week of a measure on which Rep. Tyler Vorpagel has been working since January.
Back then a spokesman for the lawmaker confirmed he was busy drafting a bill to legalise and protect online fantasy sports in Wisconsin, although the detail was not at that stage available.
The state AG at the time, Brad Schimel, said he was neutral on the issue as no DFS complaints had been received.
The Wisconsin constitution presently allows only raffles, bingo halls, the state lottery and tribal casinos when it comes to gambling.
This week Vorpagel, along with three other sponsors, gave their motivation for the proposal, claiming that Wisconsin laws on DFS are not sufficiently precise, and suggesting that their bill aims to address that.
This is not Vorpagel’s first run at DFS legalisation -last year he was among a group of lawmakers promoting AB800, which failed to progress, along with a companion move in the state Senate, where SB 702 introduced by three senators also failed to gain traction.
