Camelot wins $2.2 billion US contract to replace Northstar
UK National Lottery operator Camelot has scored a major US coup with its appointment as the new operator for the ailing Illinois State Lottery – a $2.2 billion deal.
On Friday, Illinois state lottery officials announced that Camelot is to be given responsibility for managing state lottery affairs over the next 10 years. The company will operate through its local subsidiary Camelot Illinois, from local offices established last year.
Camelot was the only bidder on the contract, which ousts previous operator Northstar, a jv between IGT and Scientific Games.
Northstar failed to achieve its ambitious revenue projections and was served notice on the termination of its contract in 2014, although it agreed to continue running the Illinois lottery for appropriate compensation until a replacement was found.
