New Mexico Tribal Casinos Commission Problem Gambling Study

First in over a decade for US state

The Responsible Gaming Association of New Mexico, a body funded by Indian tribal casino operators in the state, has commissioned a study on problem gambling which will be carried out by the independent Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation, according to local media reports.

The study is believed to be the first of its kind in New Mexico in over a decade, and will cover gambling behaviour among the young and adults, with a particular focus on economically vulnerable demographics.

The last study in New Mexico was completed in 2006 and estimated that as many as 15,000 women and 24,000 men had compulsive or pathological gambling tendencies.
