GOP Activist to Sue over Sports Betting in Rhode Island

The name Daniel Harrop is likely to become more well known over the coming weeks and months, certainly if you reside in Rhode Island and like to partake in the odd bet or two on sports.

As Harrop, a Republican activist has filed a lawsuit against the state lottery officials yesterday. With the lawsuit being filed on his behalf by Rhode Island Republican Party Chairman Brandon Bell alongside attorney Joe Larisa.

Harrop has been quoted as saying that: “Sports betting should stop pending a statewide referendum.” However, Democratic Senate President Dominick Ruggerio is confident that Harrop’s lawsuit will be ultimately unsuccessful. Based on the legal advice Ruggerio has received, that state’s voters approved sports betting when they approved casino gambling.

However, the actions of Harrop  goes to show just how far there is to go before online sports betting and iGaming in general becomes regulated across the board in the US.
