The Mega Millions Lottery has just had its jackpot won, with a lucky ticket holder from the state of Ohio now celebrating being $372m richer as a result. The amount won is someway off the Mega Millions jackpot which was hit back in June earlier this year, where a resident of San Diego won $530m.
The winning numbers that were drawn were the white balls 22, 30, 53, 55 and 56, with the gold mega ball being ball 16. The date of 17th December is something of a lucky omen for the Mega Millions Lottery, as 6 years to the day the third highest ever jackpot prize of $648 million was shared between two ticket holders.
However, yesterday’s win of $372m is dwarfed somewhat by the lottery’s largest ever payout out, a staggering $1.5bn, which went to a ticket holder from South Carolina. Yesterday’s jackpot draw, was the first such jackpot payout since a ticket holder from Texas won $225m back at the end of September. The next draw of the Mega Millions lottery is to be held on Friday, with the jackpot available being reset to $40m.
The winning ticket holder of the $372m jackpot has a couple of ways to be paid out, which they can choose from. If they go for the entire amount in cash, after taxes they will receive a total of $251.5m. Alternatively they can choose to be paid out in 29 annual instalments, but without the massive deduction of $121m.
