The ongoing issue as to when casinos in Las Vegas are to reopen has been answered, with Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak confirming last night that he has given the go-ahead for casinos to be able to reopen on Thursday 4th June. With Sisolak stating: “We welcome the visitors from across the country to come here, to have a good time, no different than they did previously, but we’re gonna be cautious.”
Over the past few weeks there has been much public debate as to when the casinos and entertainment businesses would be allowed to reopen. The Mayor of Las Vegas Carolyn Goodman came in for much criticism at the end of April, after suggesting that employees of casino establishments in Las Vegas should become a ‘control group’, in an experiment to see if social distancing measures are effective.
Goodman speaking to MSNBC said: “Let the businesses open, and competition will destroy that business if, in fact, they become evident that they have the disease.” A comment that Governor Sisolak took umbrage with, publicly stating that he would not allow residents of Nevada to be used in such a way.
Concerning the reopening of casinos and businesses in the state on 4th June, Sisolak also provided further information, commenting: “We’ve taken every precaution possible. I don’t think you’re going to find a safer place to come than Las Vegas by June 4, with the protocols that we’ve put in place, than the testing that we’ve put in place, with the contact tracing that will be in place by that time.”
“We’re encouraging visitors to come and enjoy themselves and have a good time.”
