Daily Fantasy Sports Makes Progress In West Virginia

Close vote but a positive one

A daily fantasy sports legalisation bill made good progress Thursday, securing approval on a vote of 18 vs. 16 in the state Senate.
The bill now moves to the state House of Assembly for further scrutiny and hopefully a vote.
The Associated Press news agency reports that the bill clarifies West Virginia law does not prohibit the operation of or playing in daily fantasy sports competitions, which require knowledge and skill for success.
It contains a number of consumer-friendly requirements for operators to adhere to, including informing players about the prizes available prior to playing; and that contests must be based on accumulated statistics of individuals, including athletes, and not on the spread or score of one team, or the individual performance of one player in one event.
