Mississippi Men Charged With Illegal Online Sports Betting Offences

Two South Mississippi men included in prosecution against Kenneth Schmitt

The US Attorney for Mississippi has announced that two South Mississippi men, Christopher U. Anthony and Russell B. Miller, have been included in illegal online gambling offences charged earlier against Kenneth Schmitt, a Diamondhead bookmaker who pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge Dec. 20 and is currently out on bail.
The charges relate to activity via Costa Rica websites, and the US Attorney claims that Anthony and Russell travelled to Costa Rica on April 24, 2014, to deliver a payment to a person who set up gambling websites for illegal sports books, and that both now face federal charges of conspiracy to transmit wagering information.
Miller was involved in the conspiracy for nearly seven years, from Sept. 2009 through April, court documents claim, whilst Anthony's involvement allegedly began April 4, 2014, and continued through April 24, 2014.
Schmitt, Anthony and Miller and others have been accused of conspiring to keep the online betting confidential and to protect gamblers from being identified. Their crimes allegedly occurred in Diamondhead and Biloxi.
Arrests elsewhere in the nation last year came as the American Gaming Association announced it will lobby Congress for legalised and regulated sports betting in the U.S.
