FanDuel said to be negotiating a similar agreement
News from Illinois is that daily fantasy sports company DraftKings has negotiated a truce with the Illinois AG Lisa Madigan in which both sides agree:
* Not to take any further legal action on DFS legality until a judicial hearing in June;
* DraftKings may continue to operate in the state until then;
* FanDuel is reportedly negotiating a similar agreement.
InfoPowa readers will recall that Madigan recently ruled that daily fantasy sports is gambling and contravenes state law, and that consequently the leading DFS sites should name Illinois as a banned player state in its terms and conditions.
DraftKings and FanDuel responded with court filings requesting an injunction against the AG shutting them down, and that has been followed by the news that, as a court date for June 27 has now been set, the status quo should be allowed to continue until the case has been heard.
Legal counsel for DraftKings commented that the company is pleased with the fast-tracked court schedule that has been agreed.
"We remain committed to providing DFS to the hundreds of thousands of loyal Illinois fans who love the game, and we look forward to our day in court, where we are confident we will prevail," he said.
