Operator has big plans for the 2016 Major League Baseball season
Daily fantasy sports operator DraftKings has set aside a budget of $5 million in player rewards to kick-start its involvement in the 2016 Major League Baseball season, titling its latest 10-day DFS festival the Fantasy Baseball $5 Million Championship Series.
The series runs through to September 2 and will feature a wide variety of MLB-themed contests with a diverse range of entry fees. The centerpiece of the series is the Fantasy Baseball $1 Million Main Event, which carries a $444 entry free and a $200,000 top prize.
The first events, a $300,000 guaranteed Moonshot ($50,000 top prize) and the $400,000 guaranteed Curveball Championship ($100,000 awarded to first place) have already commenced, with opportunities for a variety of bankrolls ranging from a $3 entry fee, to $333 depending on the event.
The next few days will see a total of another $700,000 paid out between the $500,000 guaranteed Fastball Championship, which carries a $33 entry fee and pays out $100,000 to the winner, and the $200,000 High Heat Championship, which delivers $30,000 to the top finisher and sports a $100 cost to participate.
Other events will include a "3-Max Blast Day", a trio of contests that will pay out a total of $650,000, and a $300,000 guaranteed Sunday Fifty Championship ($50 entry) and a $250,000 guaranteed Main Event Warmup ($400 entry), both of which award $50,000 to first place.
The festival culminates in a main event next Tuesday, when $1.4 million will be paid out by night's end in main, medium and mini events.
