Big names fall as entry days complete and fields get set to combine on Day 3
The Day 1 and 2 entry fields of this year’s World Series of Poker Main Event have almost run their course, and excitement is now building for Day 3, when the survivors of the original 7,221 entrants gather for the first time to play down to the eventual winner.
Many former main event winners registered for this year’s event, and already a notable number have been eliminated, among them current champion Qui Nguyen, 2014 winner Martin Jacobson, 2002’s Robert Varkonyi and 2010 champ Jonathan Duhamel.
Still in action are Greg Raymer (2004), Australia’s Joe Hachem (2005) and veteran Tom McEvoy (1983).
When InfoPowa went to press late Wednesday night Vegas time the last of the entry day competitions (2C) was nearing the final two-hour level with 2,000 survivors from the massive starting field of 4,262 still in the game. Ryan Hughes was holding the most chips 585,000.
Notable casualties in the final levels of the day included Phil Hellmuth, Galen Hall, Xuan Liu, Eric Baldwin, Griffin Benger, and Antonio Esfandiar…and Daniel Negreanu was low on chips and could be endangered.
