Georgia Daily Fantasy Sports On The Back Burner For Now (update)

State legislature has adjourned for the year

A daily fantasy sports legalisation bill almost made it through the political gauntlet in the US state of Georgia this week, passing the House but languishing in the Senate when the state legislature adjourned Thursday until next January.
The publication Legal Sports Reports claims that supporters of the bill in the Senate were unsure of how much backing they could rely on and therefore opted to let the bill go on the back burner and be discussed again next January rather than risk having it voted down.
“We had some more work to do, but the bill advanced a long, long way and the progress will not go to waste,” Marc La Vorgna, a spokesperson for DraftKings and FanDuel, told Legal Sports Review.
“It’s a two year session, so we will build on the work from this year and we get to pick up right where we left off — effectively starting on third base when the legislature comes back into session.”
