Las Vegas Review-journal Declares For Presidential Candidate Rubio

But says that Adelson's ownership is not a factor in its support for the Republican contender

The conservative-leaning Las Vegas Review-Journal, recently acquired by major Republican Party donor and land casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, has come out in support of Florida Republican Party presidential candidate Marco Rubio.
The endorsement could be an important boost for Rubio at the Nevada Republican caucus scheduled for February 23rd; in its endorsement the newspaper – one of Nevada's largest – opines that Rubio is best-positioned to advance from the primary season and allow the Republicans to win the White House, adding that it supports the senator's merit-based ideas on immigration and smaller federal government involvement.
Clearly sensitive to the implications of Adelson's $140 million acquisition of the company through a convoluted process late last year, the Las Vegas Review-Journal editorial board pointed out in an op-ed on its Rubio position that it had held discussions with the candidate at least two months before the sale of the newspaper to an Adelson nominee was announced.
"The Adelsons have detached themselves from our endorsement process, and our endorsement of Sen. Rubio does not represent the support of the family," the article notes.
Rubio is one of the co-sponsors for the anti-online gambling federal proposal S.1668 The Restoration of America's Wire Act, which South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham has been trying unsuccessfully to push through Congress for the past two years.
RAWA is widely believed to be the work of Adelson lobbyists trying to further the land casino billionaire's goal of banning most forms of online gambling in the United States.
