Maryland Drafts Daily Fantasy Sports Regulation

Comptroller has a change of heart

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot appears to have had a change of heart on daily fantasy sports; late last year he condemned the vertical as gambling that could corrupt sports, but this week he released a set of guidelines and acknowledged that DFS has a 'significant presence' in the state and should be controlled and taxed.
The guidelines follow the template established by other states, forbidding insider activity, college sports and underage participants, distinguishing experienced players vs. novices and banning the use of third party scripts, along with limiting the size of deposits and forbidding gambling on credit.
Legislators will use the guidelines if they decide to legalise DFS.
