The National Hockey League has hired Sarah Slane, a former executive of the American Gaming Association in a consultancy role, to advise the NHL on sports betting policies. The NHL are keen to expand into the regulated States in the US, where the 31 teams in the NHL are based in.
The appointment of Slane, who has set up her own company, Slane Advisory, will no doubt help the NHL achieve this aim. With her knowledge of gambling regulation within the United States, Slane will be advising the NHL how best to maximise any potential from regulated sports betting.
The NHL’s Chief Brand Officer, Keith Wachtel, said of the appointment of Slane and her company: “Our new partnership with Slane Advisory is another example of our commitment to working collaboratively with the sports betting industry and developing a best-in-class approach to partnerships.”
“We need someone who understands the business and can help us and our teams in creating partnerships and evaluating space.”
Slane, commenting on her new role with the NHL commented: “Sports betting is the new frontier for the industry. Commissioner Bettman has understood the value of partnership since sports betting became legal.”
“I look forward to executing additional deals that benefit both industries and maximise this once in a lifetime opportunity. I am happy to work with the NHL and drive additional gaming partnerships to the League and its clubs.”
