Nevada Governor Announces New Regulatory Chief

Politician Becky Harris is to replace AG Burnett at the Nevada Gaming Control Board

Nevada governor Brian Sandoval has announced that Republican state Senator Becky Harris (49) will replace outgoing Nevada Gaming Control Board chairman AG Burnett.

InfoPowa readers may recall that Burnett announced his resignation from the Board in December to return to private practice after five years in the regulatory hot seat.

Harris is well-qualified for the job; she holds a Master’s degree in gaming law and regulation, has an impeccable personal reputation, and wide state political experience. She becomes the Board’s first female chairperson.

“To be appointed to the finest regulatory system in the world is a tremendous responsibility,” Harris said in a news release. “I am grateful for the trust and confidence Gov. Sandoval has placed in me.”

The senator must vacate her seat in the state Senate to take up her new appointment, and because Burnett left a year ahead of the completion of his contract the position will have to be revisited in January 2019.

Nevada Is Back!

Annual stats show that state-wide revenue is back at pre-recession levels

Figures covering the full year period ended June 30 2017 released at the weekend by the Nevada Gaming Control Board show that the 272 land casinos earning over a million dollars a year have delivered revenue numbers that best pre-recession 2007.

The Board’s Nevada Gaming Abstract records total revenue up 3.7 percent y-o-y at $26.2 billion, and net income 59 percent up y-o-y at $1.55 billion.

That’s a significant improvement on FY 2015, when state-wide losses reached $661.8 million.
