The Governor of the US state of Nevada, Steve Sisolak, has ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment establishments in the state, to include casinos, bars, restaurants and hotels, which will come into affect at midday on Wednesday, in response to the growing Coronavirus pandemic.
We reported only a couple of days ago that the MGM Resorts and the Wynn-Encore Group had decided to close all their establishments in Las Vegas, now the order coming from the state of Nevada, has imposed the closure on all their competitors who had, up until this point, decided to remain open for business.
The directive from the state of Nevada comes after US President Donald Trump had announced an economic stimulus package of $1tn, making it one of the largest federal emergency fiscal packages ever assembled.
Governor Sisolak, speaking about the order, said: “Today additional steps must be taken to slow the spread of the virus in our state. You’re being told not to go out.” Sisolak also reaffirmed that residents of the state to heed the work of first responders who need protection, further stating: “You owe it to them to listen to that directive.”
An uber driver on the strip speaking after the directive was announced, to the Los Angeles Times, said: “I was expecting a few casinos to be open and was hoping to make some money from that. If all the casinos are shutting down, the employees will be really affected. It’ll be like 2008 when people lost their houses.”
