After pleading guilty, Micon will pay $25,000 fine but avoids imprisonment
Bryan Micon, the Las Vegas Bitcoin online casino operator of the Seals With Clubs website who was busted by Nevada authorities earlier this year in a raid on his home, (see previous InfoPowa reports) has been sentenced for operating an illegal gambling system.
The Associated Press news agency reports on Tuesday that a Las Vegas court confirmed his guilty plea and imposed a fine of $25,000, along with two years' probation. Micon also surrendered 3.0996 in bitcoin credits, another $900 in cash and several computers as part of an agreement reached in July on the felony plea.
He faces over 2 years in state prison if he violates terms of the sentence.
Micon fled to Antigua after the raid by Nevada gambling authorities but returned to face the charge, which Nevada AG Adam Laxalt claimed was a first-of-its-kind prosecution dealing with bitcoin and illegal Internet gaming.
