Gov. Haslam makes Tennessee the third US state to legalise daily fantasy sports
Tennessee joined Virginia and Indiana in legalising daily fantasy sports when Gov. Bill Haslam signed a bill approved by the state legislature into law this week.
The measure enjoyed a rapid passage through both House and Senate, passing on votes of 67-17 and 27-2 respectively before going to the governor's desk.
The positive vote was given despite the state Attorney General's opinion that the genre constituted gambling and is illegal in Tennessee.
The bill comes into force on July 1 this year, when operators will have to seek state licensing and ante up a 6 percent annual tax on revenue generated by Tennessee players. A licence fee has yet to be decided.
