Texas Hold’Em Takes On A New Meaning In Houston Church Incident

Firefighters called out to an incident at the Word of Life Church make a surprising discovery…

Local media reports from Houston, Texas over the weekend tell a bizarre story of emergency fire crews that were called out to free a trapped person in the Word of Life Church, only to discover an interesting backroom containing over a hundred gambling machines.

An astonished Harris County Sheriffs Department Twitter post reported the unusual combination of religion and betting, confirming that an individual had been arrested on a pre-existing warrant of arrest and an investigation opened. Several other arrests were made, but the individuals were released following police interviews.

The reports indicate that the police must have had some prior suspicions regarding the church, noting that just two weeks earlier the premises had been searched by enforcement officials.

The Word of Life Church has only been at the current location since April of 2016 according to its website, and had only come into existence three years before that.

Under the ‘About Us’ section, the church lays out its ‘vision to build the Kingdom of God, while building the people of God spiritually, economically, socially and physically.’
