Why would the bank of America want to close the account of a bona fide customer worth around $32.3 million?
The Bank of America played the Christmas Grinch for poker ace Daniel Negreanu (41) this year, arbitrarily and without warning closing his account just before Christmas.
Canadian-born but Las Vegas resident, Negreanu is a well-liked and honest player of considerable talent who has amassed earnings of around $32.3 million in a sparking professional playing career.
On December 23 Negreanu took to twitter to announce: "Apparently Bank of America no longer wants my business. They are closing all my accounts because I put too much money in them from poker???"
It didn't end there, as a further tweet from Negreanu revealed: "MasterCard just cancelled my credit card for no reason whatsoever… And I'm rich! How dumb are they? Haha."
The online poker information site Pocket Fives took up the story, reporting that Negreanu is not the only high profile poker professional to be treated in this rather cavalier manner.
Apparently Haralabos Voulgaris, Doug Polk, and Ankush Mandavia have experienced similar arbitrary banking hassles in the past as well.
Negreanu claims that the closures were triggered by a US Department of Justice initiative titled Operation Choke Point, which is being used to investigate financial institutions for business activities related to industries that are perceived to be at a high risk of fraud.
