Senator Louise Lucas' SB1400 attracts equal support and opposition
The Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam, had to use his casting vote in the Senate this week to break a tie on state Senator Louise Lucas' SB1400, a bill that seeks to decriminalise poker tournaments as games of skill and take them out of the definition of gambling.
Senators voted 19 for and against on the bill, requiring the casting vote, which the Lieutenant Governor made in favour of the bill, which also proposes oversight by the state Department of Consumer Services or the Charitable Gaming Board.
Although the bill does not specifically include online poker, its ultimate passage obviously has far-reaching implications that may include embracing the online vertical.
