Josh Horton eliminated in the early hours of Monday morning to end Day 6
The main event action at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas is now down to just 27 players following the elimination of Josh Horton by Jack Sinclair early Monday morning Vegas time.
Horton took home $214,913 for surviving most of an original starting field of 7221 players, but just missed the 27 cut-off set by the organisers for the end of Day 6 play.
With play at level 32 and average stacks at around 13.3 million officials closed Day 6 and the remaining players bagged their chips.
Leader for Day 6 is Christian Pham, who had a phenomenal run to bag 31.4 million chips. He is being pursued by Valentin Messina on 28.6 million and Jack Sinclair on 27.5 million, with Antoine Saout (9.9 million), Ben Lamb (5.6 million) and Scott Stewart (6,2 million) further down the stack counts of the 27 survivors.
The next pay-out level is $263,532.
Michael Ruane (9.3 million) is keeping his dream alive of making back-to-back final tables this year (he was a November Niner last year), but similar ambitions by Belgian ace Kenny Hallaert were dashed when he was eliminated at 64th on Day 6 for $101,444..
Other former main event final table finishers over the years who are still in the running this year include Ben Lamb (2011 final table) and Antoine Saout (2009).
Sadly Toronto businessman and ten-year WSOP Main Event veteran Jonathan Dwek busted out at 38th for $176,399; the 35-year-old added a dash of light-hearted fun by playing his main event days in a Superman suit.
Also headed home after busting were Dario Sammartino (43rd — $176,399), Max Silver (45th — $176,399), and Connor Drinan (56th — $121,188).
